charmed... i'm sure.

Dignified.
Sophisticated.
A few moments later... not so much.

No snow...

But I had my fill of it last year when I was snowed in at the house
with only Prairie, Sailor, and the wii fit for amusement...
Actually, yesterday there were some snowflakes...
they just didn't care to stick to the ground.

new favorite swing.

How do you like to go up in a swing? Up in the air so blue.
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing ever a child can do!
[robert louis stevenson]

I found another hidden trail along the river and boat docks. I can't wait to go back and take more pictures, but stumbling upon the swing was the most splendid part.

This picture inspired these thoughts...
Is that true? Or is that just a phrase we tell ourselves and each other when something doesn't work out exactly the way we pictured?
I think it's perfectly lovely to have that kind of mindset... it's the bright, positive way of looking at any situation. It's like finding the silver lining or declaring a Pollyanna Moment.
What's meant to be will always find a way.

Whenever I'm wondering or spending too much time musing about... what is happening, what has happened, or what will happen, I always remind myself of the wonderful ponderings (apparently I've just invented a word— "ponderings") of Carrie Bradshaw: "can we make a mistake and miss our fate?"
and then ...
"Maybe our mistakes are what make our fate. Without them, what would shape our lives? Perhaps if we never veered off course, we wouldn't fall in love . . . or be who we are. After all, seasons change. So do cities. People come into your life and people go. But it's comforting to know that the ones you love are always in your heart. And if you're very lucky, a plane ride away."
[sex and the city... clever witticisms and unabashed humor.]

(I can predict my fate at the magazine today: freshly edited events from Anna waiting for me on my desk. Pen in hand, and keyboard in front of me, I'll dash and type my little heart out, and make those blurbs as delightful as can be.)

The Belleville, residing in the garage.
Dear Belleville,

I feel that I must apologize for the amount of neglect you've been receiving on my part. I know we both miss those lovely summer days when I'd skip out to see you and we'd roll away down the sidewalk to the beach... or the post office... or the library... or just for a quick trip around to show off your incredibly chic and classic looks.

Due to the weather and my tendency to be cold (perpetually), I'm simply not brave enough to face the wind, dropping temperatures, and rain. But never fear, according to my sources on weather.com, Daniel Island can expect sunshine and highs in the 50s this week. So maybe, just maybe, we'll get out there again, and you can take your rightful place on the sidewalk.

thoughtfully,

npm

where the wild things are?

"And now,"cried Max, "let the wild rumpus start!"
This structure caught my attention yesterday while I was riding my bike to the library. Only... it had a roof then. The builders and I obviously share a commonality when it comes to construction of small dwellings. But I have to say, my gingerbread house doesn't have the same caliber as this fort of the forest.

Hopefully they'll have the roof back up soon and I can get some pictures of it. UNLESS the builders were thinking ahead, knowing this week is supposed to be FREEZING and WINDY—I'm not looking forward to the rush of dropping temperatures—and they decided to dismantle their roof.
We'll see...

idle saturday afternoon.

"And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don't believe in magic will never find it." [Roald Dahl]

I know I must've used that quote before, but there's no such thing as too much Roald Dahl, and this picture made me think of that quote specifically. It's whimsical, magical, glimmering, lovely, la de da, and all of that.
So there.

speed demon.

And he's off!
Close-up. Look at the concentration, the drive, the stamina.
The wind in his hair...
"I will teach this spanish moss a lesson!!!
I. Will. Tear. It. To. Shreds.
No one will recognize it ever again!!"
"Oh wait, an itch. Excuse me."
And there he goes again! Invincible, indestructible, unstoppable.
And with no apparent destination.

i'm cold. posting a hot day at baylor on the bench swings.

"would you not like to be sitting on top of the world
 with your legs hanging free?"
the prettiest roommates in aspen heights.
We were always this giggly. Promise...
I seem to be drawing back to make a serious statement.
Look at that sudden uprightness in my posture.
Now Heather's the serious one. She really has Mer's attention.
I don't even know what's happening here. Jess is pulling Heather's hair
in response to her previous statement of solemnity?

area of focus (no pun intended).

camera girl.
Since I'm happily extending my internship with the magazine, I've decided to take it for all its worth and treat it like a real job. That means I'll be there every day (almost) from 9:15-5:15 (probably), making myself indispensable and stuffing as much knowledge about writing in the editorial world as I can fit into my head.
Although those thoughts were already twirling about in my head, it was verbalized and confirmed as the best way to go about things by my dear kindred spirit—Meredith. Props to her.
Not that I wasn't already taking my editorial intern position seriously, but I'll own up to leaving early on certain days without telling anyone. Well, that won't be happening anymore. I'm making my serious schedule and sticking to it.
I also promise to take my camera with me EVERYWHERE, even if my only photo of the day turns out to be a shot of the gulfstream communications sign. Or a mailbox. Or the sidewalk. And this post continues on its way... a little lost due to a lack of direction.
I'm beginning to rely on other sources for photos, and while that's fine and dandy, I do enjoy spending time editing my own, and sifting through them to find the right ones to post.
But here's a picture of puppy Augustus! Even though he was only 6 months old, he still has his wise old soul look to him...
